PURPOSE: To provide a method relatively positioning a magnetic head step servo device and magnetic head for a tape driving unit. ;CONSTITUTION: In this device, a magnetic head is relatively positioned to the working position with respect to a selected track in a multiple track magnetic tape within a magnetic tape write/read device. The magnetic head 20 is arranged in one side end part of a magnetic head supporting body 24, while another end part of the head supporting body is movable in the shaft direction along a shaft 50. A spanworm type servo device is provided with two clamping devices and one positioning device, the positioning device 38 is arranged between two clamping devices 34, 36 and its length is changeable. The servo device is moved up and down on the shaft and guided to the position of the magnetic head by alternately clamping two clamping devices 34, 36 to the shaft 50 and also changing the distance between two clamping devices.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO
