PURPOSE:To decompose and remove effectively sulfur containing odorous substances in an offensive odor gas and to enable a deodorization in a short contact time by bringing bacteria, which decompose sulfur containing odorous substances and are cultivated with dimethyl sulfoxide, in contact with the offensive odor gas. CONSTITUTION:A culture solution, wherein bacteria for decomposition of sulfur containing odor substances have been cultivated with dimethyl sulfoxide as a substrate, is evenly sprayed from a spray pipe 5 to a peat layer 2 packed with long fibrous peat. Then an offensive odorous gas is introduced into a vessel 1 through a gas inlet pipe 3. The offensive odorous gas its offensive odorous substances such as sulfur containing odorous substances etc. oxidized and decomposed by active microorganisms supported by the peat layer 2.
