In the present invention there is disclosed a method for biologically removing phosphorus from wastewater within intermittently working reactors, wherein after the treatment cycle, decanting of pure water and pumping away excessive sludge are terminated a phase of activated sludge regeneration takes place within the reactor tank. This activated sludge regeneration phase is characterized by aeration for a period within 10 minutes to 10 hours, filling the reactor with raw wastewater during this aeration, whereby the activated sludge and waste water are mixed causing so accumulation of phosphorus in the activated sludge.
