Process for manufacturing a porous pipe intended for irrigation, comprising the steps consisting in (a) compounding a homogeneous mixture (21) composed of particles of vulcanized rubber and of particles of a thermoplastic binder; (b) forcing the said mixture to pass through an extruder (30) in which it is heated; (c) forcing the said mixture to exit the extruder via a die (40), in the form of a pipe (23), at a linear extrusion speed V1; (d) immersing the said pipe, on exiting the die, in a cooling bath (34) in which the said pipe undergoes a linear contraction Cp expressed in percent; (e) forcing the pipe, on exiting the cooling bath, to pass betwee two haul-off wheels (27, 28) at a linear extraction speed V2; (f) reeling up the pipe into a reel (25) on exiting the haul-off wheels; characterized in that V1, V2, Cp are related by the equation V2 (100-Cp) l 100 u l 120 V1
