The system has a first end (P1) of the primary winding connected to a voltage source (BAT) and its other end (P2) connected to earth via a switch component (SP). The capacitor is charged by the spark current (Is) produced in the secondary winding up to a predetermined voltage level given by a voltage-limiting component parallel coupled over the capacitor. A first ignition voltage is induced in the secondary winding after the switch component has broken a primary current (Ip) formed by the primary current and where a spark current (Is) is formed in the secondary winding circuit. The voltage limiting component comprises at least one zener diode has a breakthrough voltage between 600-2000 volts, preferably 1000 volts. The Zener diode limits the charging load by the spark current of the capacitor to a voltage level corresponding to the breakthrough voltage.
