The present invention refers to an apparatus for removal of the reserve yarn from spent yarn reel cops, comprising: means of grabbing a cop to be subjected to cleaning and means of removal of the reserve yarn that operate on command on the outer shell of the cop at the reserve zone, situated near one axial end of the cop. The means of removal are able to interfere with the yarn situated in the reserve zone with a force having a component parallel to the axis of the cop and oriented toward the aforesaid end of the cop to bring about at least a partial unthreading of the yarn from the aforesaid end of the cop.
