Automatic apparatus for shaping and checking the size of knitted garments on steam ironing machines, using little bars or forms for spreading the garment on the ironing table, comprising a quadrangular frame arranged below the peripheral zone of the ironing table and, at its opposite ends, bearing two identical pairs of horizontal supports; anchored immovably to each of the pairs are two rod-shaped elements or forms, openable substantially in scissors manner by means of a piston or similar and shaped in such a way as to determine the conformation of the sleeves, of the shoulders and of the neck, said two pairs of supports being moveably mounted in both the longitudinal and transversal directions, with respect to the ironing table, on slides translatable on guides machined in said frame and driven in both directions by means of bars or screws associated with a drive motor or similar; these elements constituting the forms are then hinged at the ends of said lateral supports in such a way as to be able to be raised in the vertical plane and then, after being brought together by said piston, to permit straightforward manual removal of the finished garment at the end of the treatment cycle.
