The machine comprises a pair of counterrotating tools 23- 24 mutually spaced from each other by a predetermined segment, means 13-17-19 for supporting each individual sphere S being worked and for making said sphere undergo consecutive and repeated work cycles defined by at least one pass through said counterrotating tools 23-24, which produce, on the equatorial zone of the sphere itself, respective facets of a polyhedral solid, and means 30 of producing the rotation by an angular step of the sphere at the end of each work cycle. The counterrotating tools 23-24 are positioned stationary in relation to the structure of the machine and the means 13-17-19 of support of the individual spheres typically move in vertical direction in relation to said counterrotating tools.
