Modular telephone interface system for remote control of electronic apparatus in interactive television applications

A telephone interface device is described for remote control of electronic apparatus in interactive television applications. The system, utilising an integrated circuit dedicated to the decoding of the DTMF multifrequency tones generated by present-day keyboards, enables an interaction with other electronic devices, including video game consoles or other dedicated entertainment apparatus. The device therefore simulates the electrical behaviour of the joysticks of the major brands, allowing the player to be located at the other end of the telephone line. Thanks to the modular design, the system can be reconfigured, enabling the use of several hardware units for connection of a number of players, essentially limited by the entry ports of the controlled system. The availability of programmable integrated circuits within the interface card then allows rapid adaptation to different situations. IMAGE
