Process for the inerting of wastes containing asbestos and subsequent recycling of the inerts obtained in order to produce cordierite ceramic materials. The cordierite is used industrially for the production of catalytic silencers and electrical insulators. Wastes containing asbestos, which are mechanically disaggregated and to which clay is added are completely converted through changes of phase into a harmless material which is free from asbestos fibres. The derived waste is used directly in the production of extruded cordierite manufactured articles.
