Toothpaste with whitening, anti-plaque and anti-tartar properties and low abrasiveness. A toothpaste with whitening, anti-plaque and anti-tartar properties and low abrasiveness has a formulation which comprises (a) 5 to 10% xylitol, (b) 0.7 to 1.1% sodium lauryl sarcosinate, (c) 16 to 18% silica, (d) a buffer made up of (i) tetrasodium or tetrapotassium pyrophosphate and (ii) disodium (or dipotassium) dihydrogen pyrophosphate, together with: a) between 3 and 7% of a proteolytic enzyme of low specificity, or alternatively b) between 0.3 and 3% approximately of carbamide peroxide, where the percentages are percentages by weight relative to the total formulation. The toothpaste also includes water, remineralizers, wetting agents, binders, opacifying agents, colouring agents, flavourings, sweeteners and, optionally, preservatives.
