Device which aims to establish a cover for the soil surrounding each plant or seed with a view to enhancing the latter's development conditions and it consists of a platform of suitable dimensions for the amount of ground to be covered, which platform is embodied in a black plastic sheet provided with a plurality of drawn-down sections defining deep cells which are open at the top and are intended for insertion in the ground, to a greater or lesser degree, to form rainwater-collecting means able slowly to drain out over the ground, provision having been made for said cells to surround a protuberance in the central zone of the platform, also plastic in nature, preferably transparent or white plastic, which, with a general frustoconical configuration, projects upwards to define a receptacle in which to place the crop seed or plant, formed in the manner of a "mini greenhouse" for the protection of the seed or plant.
