Known methods of detecting routing loops in telecommunication networksare cumbersome and time-consuming. In addition, the probability that anexisting routing loop is even actually detected is too low. In a method ofdetecting a routing loop according to the invention, paths whose lengths arestored are assembled. As soon as the length of a (partly assembled) pathexceeds a predetermined value which is greater than, or equal to, the largestexisting path length in the telecommunication network, this indicates theexistence of a routing loop.
