The present invention relates to the treatment oftoxic wastes, and particularly to the immobilization ofmetals, in toxic amounts, in such wastes. A waste productcomprising the metals is provided. A mixture is preparedcomprising said toxic wastes, water, and a cementitiouscomposition. The cementitious composition comprisesmagnesium oxide and magnesium chloride in proportionseffective to produce, with said water, a magnesiumoxychloride cement. The cementitious composition ispresent in an amount, which on setting, is effective toimmobilize the metals in said waste. The mixture of toxicwaste and cementitious composition is introduced to adisposition site, and allowed to set at said site.
