Provided is an insulated oxide superconducting cableconductor having a high critical current and a highcritical current density. The insulated oxidesuperconducting cable conductor comprises an elongatedformer, a plurality of tape-shaped multifilamentary oxidesuperconducting wires which are wound on the former at abending strain factor of not more than 0.5 %, and aspirally wound tape-shaped insulating material coveringthe tape-shaped multifilamentary oxide superconductingwires. The tape-shaped multifilamentary superconductingwires are superposed on the former in layers, wherebystabilizing materials of the superposed superconductingwires are in contact with each other. The tape-shapedinsulating material consists essentially of a materialwhich is contracted at a thermal contraction rate of atleast three times that of the tape-shaped multifilamentarywires by cooling from a temperature of 298 K to that of 77K. The tape-shaped insulating material can apply apressure to the superposed multifilamentarysuperconducting wires toward the former while improvingelectrical contact between the superposed multifilamentarysuperconducting wires by cooling in employment. Theformer can be formed of a flexible tube.
