PROCESS FOR REMOVING ETHERS AND POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS FROM GROUNDWATER

Disclosed is a process for purifying groundwater byinitially separating off solid constituents, adsorbing ethersand polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons to an absorber resin,desorbing the adsorbed compounds with steam and regeneratingthe adsorbed resin with an acid. The process enables ethersand polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons to be separated off frompolluted groundwater to such a substantial extent that thegroundwater can be added to flowing surface waters withoutproblem. The purified water can, if appropriate, be used ascooling water or, after further biological purification, canalso be used as drinking water.
