SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR STABLE ANALYSIS OF SAMPLED TRANSIENTS ARBITRARILY ALIGNED WITH THEIR SAMPLE POINTS

A method of stably identifying andcharacterizing a transient contained in a sampled set ofdata, the data representing a physical event, wherealignment of the sample points with the transient istypically arbitrary. The method includes the steps ofanalyzing the first data set using a predefinedmathematical operator to produce a second data set,detecting and isolating the discrete data pattern in thesecond data set, determining a location of the detectedand isolated data pattern in the second data set,measuring a difference between the location of thedetected and isolated data pattern and a predeterminedlocation of the predefined mathematical operator,adjusting the location of the discrete data pattern in thesecond data set to align it with the predefinedmathematical operator in accordance with the measuredlocation difference, or, vice versa, aligning themathematical operator with the discrete data pattern inaccordance with the measured location difference andanalyzing the aligned data pattern with the predefinedmathematical operator.
