SYSTEM FOR MATCHING ABSORBANCE SPECTRA EMPLOYING A LIBRARY STABILIZATION ALGORITHM

In a method of matching a known product with one of a libraryof known products, training sets of the absorbance spectra of theknown products are measured and stored. The training sets of theknown products are used to determine an expanded standard deviationspectrum for each known product wherein the expanded standarddeviation spectrum combines the training set of spectra with shiftreplicated spectra into expanded training sets of spectra. Theabsorbance spectrum of the unknown product is measured and thedistance of the spectrum of the unknown product from the expandedtraining sets of spectra is determined by dividing the values ofthe expanded standard deviation spectra into the difference betweenthe absorbance spectrum of the unknown product and the meanspectrum of the training set.
