A method of measuring the temperature of a high-temperature melt, comprisingthe steps of inserting the distal end of an optical fiber into a high-temperature melt, and converting optical signals transmitted through theoptical fiber to the temperature, wherein the devitrified end of the opticalfiber is cut off or the disturbance of a measurement peak due to thecombustion of the fiber is eliminated. The temperature of melt is controllednear the lower limit temperature at which fluidity of the slag can bemaintained. Further, the temperature measurement can be effected by atemperature measurement apparatus including a fiber insertion/pull-outmechanism and a fiber cutter.
