Chemical and biological systems can be altered, enhanced or suppressed, in a precisely controllable manner by exposure to a predetermined combination of AC and DC magnetic fields. The flux density of the DC magnetic field can be minimized perpendicular to the AC magnetic field while the DC magnetic field flux density parallel to the AC magnetic field is adjusted to the value required to make an ion or ions of interest resonate. The flux density of the AC magnetic field can be ajdusted to produce a controlled degree of response in a chemical or biological system.
