The invention concerns an actuating unit for a braking system with traction control and/or directional stability control and comprising a vacuum brake booster with a reaction disc (6) and a master cylinder upon which pre-charging pressure acts. In order to prevent pretension or deformation of the reaction disc (6) owing to the pre-charging pressure, in two different embodiments it is provided that one part (52, 14) of the actuating unit upon which the pre-charging pressure acts, is fixed. In one of these embodiments a process is also carried out for adjusting the distance between the end of the vacuum brake booster thrust rod (14) and the part (52).
