The process is used to analyse a branched transmission, especially a stepless hydro-mechanical transmission with at least two operating regions. The transmission has at least one planetary drive with four shafts, and has two planetary gear sets with three shafts which are coupled together. The mechanical part is coupled to a second hydrostatic drive component, with two hydraulic units which are coupled together and which can be operated in pump or motor form. The position of at least one existing zero point on the graph of the ratio of hydraulic transmission performance (Pv) to total performance (Pe), plotted against with respect to total transmission (iF), is inspected as the main criteria. The static transmission ratios of the individual planetary gear sets can then be determined from suitable zero points.
