A method for executing computer-assisted physical fault diagnosis by means of an expert system

PURPOSE: To give a computer-aided fault diagnosis method based upon an expert system which allows the easy adaption of the property and cause of a physical fault, and an optimum choice between causes and advice or a relieving methods. CONSTITUTION: Many physical fault symptons are gathered first and linked with physical fault syndromes and physical fault assumptions. Those links are automatically used forward so as to generate assumption ranking. To begin with a preferable assumption, physical fault symptoms which are not gathered are gathered and/or relative fault attribute information is repeated to chain them in the opposite direction; when there is no assumption priority variation thereafter, assumption targets are chained in the opposite direction and then confirmation is performed or an actually preferable assumption is argued. After priority variation, an advance to a new priority assumption is made. After the argument, this process excludes the assumptions which are argued in subsequent examination and advance to a new priority assumption. This process lasts until an assumption becomes effective or a group of relative assumptions is ceased.
