The invention describes a method for integrating fuzzy logic into the functional scope of standardised automation systems, especially memory-programmable controllers. In so doing, according to the invention, a fuzzy inference engine (IFM) is implemented as a process control block in a real-time operating system (BTS). Access to the operating system (BTS) and thus to the digital logic and to the fuzzy logic of the memory-programmable controller is carried out via a common operator interface administered by a personal computer (PC).
