METHOD FOR CONTINUOUSLY PROCESSING LIQUID EFFLUENTS FROM THE AGRI-FOODSTUFFS INDUSTRY BY NON-INTERMITTENT FILTRATION

Treatment of liq. food material contg. solid matter by continuous horizontal filtration across a filter medium which is continuously renewed according to the filterability of the liq. under treatment. Appts. is also claimed. Pref. appts. comprises a horizontal vessel (1), maintained rigid by struts (2) located at the top and at one third of the vessel height, with a base having grills (3) fixed to support bars on the wall and a filtrate compartment from which the filtered liq. is pumped. Filtration medium is supplied by feed roller (4) and is driven by a scraper system. USE/ADVANTAGE - Filtration of liq. obtd. from prim. and sec. carbonation stages in beet and cane sugar prodn. Filtration of sludge from prim. carbonation and syrups in beet and cane sugar prodn. Filtration of sludge in water treatment and wort filtration in brewing (all claimed). Process is simple to monitor, low maintenance, eliminates cleaning, replaces number of items of costly filtration equipment with resulting gain in space and elimination of associated costly and potentially dangerous products.
