A method of manufacturing a cold accumulating material and a refrigerator using such cold accumulating material.;A method of manufacturing a cold accumulating material in form of aggregation of particles comprises the steps of: preparing particles having a total weight, each of said particles containing at least one kind of rare earth selected from a group consisting of Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm and Yb and aggregating those prepared particles to form the cold accumulating material. Advantageously said particles are classified so that at least 70 % of said total weight is comprised of particles each having a particle size of 0,01 to 3 mm and at least 70 % of said total weight is comprised of particles each having a major diameter to a minor diameter that is not greater than 5. Furthermore, advantageously the surface roughness of said particles is not greater than 10 µm in terms of maximum height Rmax. A refrigerator for cold accumulating an extremely low temperature cold comprises a first and a second cold accumulating means, wherein the second cold accumulating means accumulates a second cold generated by further cooling a first cold accumulated by the first cold accumulating means, the second cold accumulating means comprising a second cold accumulating material advantageously manufactured according to the inventive method.
