Method and device for remote surveillance with rail-based cameras

The method involves controlling the position, orientation and zoom of a camera (12) using a computer, according to predetermined values for display of the largest part of a surveillance zone on a monitor. A target is determined and marked by a calculation device (5). Tracking of the target is performed according to a function of the target shift, direction and speed of motor, camera orientation and the zoom control value. This allows the target image to be centred on the screen. Images are recorded when the target is detected and marked.
