Edge line thinning method and apparatus in feature point based motion compensation

The present invention relates to an edge-line thinning technique in feature-based motion compensation that enables effective thinning of an edge line for feature point extraction in order to improve accuracy of motion compensation. The present invention detects pixel values for edge points of an image by applying a predetermined operator to a reconstructed previous frame signal, and removes the noise component based on a preset threshold value for pixel values of the detected edge line. The removal of the target pixel value is determined based on a sequential comparison between the target pixel value forming the edge line and at least three consecutive peripheral pixel values among the surrounding 8 pixel values. The edge line detected is thinned by applying to these fields. Accordingly, the present invention can improve coding efficiency of a feature-based motion compensation image by suppressing generation of unnecessary data.
