Multiplexer and Multiplexing Method for Restricting Cell Delay Variation of SBR (CBR) Traffic in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Networks

The present invention relates to a new multiplexing apparatus and a multiplexing method for significantly reducing cell delay variation occurring in CBR traffic in an ATM network and limiting cell delay variation. An ATM multiplexer that controls multiplexing has one input distributor, one scheduler, and one shaper and buffer for each connection. The multiplexing method used in such a multiplexing apparatus is called a bandwidth dependent scheduling (BDS) algorithm and controls the order of services of multiplexed cells.
