According to an embodiment of the present invention, the home controller receives signals from a cable television system and utilizes a cable demodulator that is tuned to the RF frequency of the channel carrying the data information. The cable demodulator demodulates the RF encrypted signals into conventional baseband digitized signals, which are sent to a packet receiver that demodulates packets addressed to each user.
