FIELD: plasma engineering; tokamak-type reactors designed for energy production by using controlled thermonuclear fusion. SUBSTANCE: shell has external equatorial cylindrical band with holes and internal hollow cylinder, both having common symmetry axis aligned with main symmetry axis of chamber, as well as two identical shell members joining equatorial belt and cylinder together on top and at bottom. Each member joining band and cylinder is built up of hollow truncated spherical segment and bell mouth joined to it, their symmetry axes being in alignment with main symmetry axis of chamber. Spherical segment is joined with equatorial band and bell mouth, with internal cylinder. Equatorial band is of varying thickness greatest in central part. Ratio of maximum band thickness to hollow cylinder thickness is greater than half the ratio of their diameters. Manufacturing process for tokamak vacuum chamber involves production of equatorial band and hollow cylinder by bending flat sheets followed by their welding, stamping shell members joining band and cylinder, and finally closing shell by welding, as well as making holes in band to receive diagnostic pipes. Holes are made after band welding and shell is finally welded up by butt joint using backing rings for forced forming of back side of weld. Backing rings are inserted before welding and removed after that through holes in band. EFFECT: improved design, facilitated manufacture. 2 cl, 1 dwg
