METHOD FOR PROVIDING ACCESS TO NECK SEGMENT OF OESOPHAGUS

FIELD: surgery. SUBSTANCE: patient's soft tissues are dissected along posterior edge of sterno- cleido-mastoid muscle from level of thyroid cartilage up to clavicle and in depth down to anterior scalene muscle. Next, proceeding along surface of scalene muscle, surgeon must reach cervical vertebrae and posterolateral wall of oesophagus. Proposed method rules out risk of injuring common carotid artery, nervus vagus, internal jugular vein and permits to avoid complications associated therewith. Method can be used for removing alien bodies and benign tumors, for treating oesophagus wounds, for practising cervical mediastinotomy in cases of inflammatory process propagating onto mediastinum along prevertebral fascia. EFFECT: simpler access to oesophagus; better view of operative field.
