The trueing gearwheel (AR) is brought into engagement with the internal teeth of the honing tool (T), taking the place of a gearwheel (W) the teeth of which are to be finished. The trueing wheel (AR) used has a large number of teeth and a large diameter compared with the wheel (W) on which the honing tool is used. While the trueing wheel is in engagement with the teeth on the honing tool, it rotates about a centreline which lies at a distance from the centreline of the trueing tool and if necessary at an angle to this centreline.
