The device includes a sensor, which can be placed at the outer wall of a tank, and a valuation unit, which is connected to the sensor, receiving and evaluating a sensor output signal, for the supervision of the fill level. The sensor is a microwave sensor (2), which includes a transmitter (6) and a receiver (7), which work above a frequency of 5 GHz, preferably in a ISM-band, and preferably in an interval of 24000 to 24050 GHz or from 61000 to 61500 GHz. The sensor is arranged at a small distance to the inside wall (3a) of the tank, and emits through the tank wall into the interior of the tank.
