The control system includes a sensor positioned adjacent a part of the baling mechanism, which controls the switching on of an air blower unit and a central lubrication circuit feeding each part of the mechanical baling apparatus between baling operations. The system may be over-ridden by the tractor driver. The tractor vehicle (7) driving the baler has a control panel (8) on the dashboard with a lead (11) connecting to a lead (11) on the baler, through a connector (12), to the blower unit (1) and lubricator (4). The string binding mechanism (5) has a proximity sensor incorporated which sends a signal at the relevant part of the baling cycle to operate the fans and lubricator for pre- determined periods of time. In unusually dirty conditions, the tractor driver may operate the system manually through the control panel.
