A cooling and/or freezing apparatus has the cold chamber (8) extending to the base. Air cooling is provided for the refrigerating machine(20), this being aligned either transversely or along the side. A divider (32) is provided to separate the incoming and outgoing air flows. The divider is integrated into a base rail. The main outgoing air flow is in the parallel but opposite direction to the incoming air, or is at an angle to it.
