Repair system for underground or overhead optical cable - uses universal optical fibre cable with pre-fabricated ends mechanically spliced to separated ends of ruptured cable

The repair system uses a universal optical fibre cable (10), with pre-fabricated end terminations (5,9), connected to the ends (7a,7b) of the ruptured optical cable, via mechanical splices (6). Pref. the universal optical fibre cable is wound around a cable drum (1), with one of the pre-fabricated end terminations provided within the hub (2) of the cable drum, the other pre-fabricated end termination received by a mobile splice housing (8), displaced to meet the ruptured cable end.
