The method involves building up an adjustable operational pressure in a circulation, e.g. by a pump and valve arranged in the circuit, which is connected to one or several consumers. The operational pressure in the entire hydraulic circuit or in individual branch lines of the hydraulic circuit is leaked during a selectable unit of time. The leakage affects the operating pressure of a pressure monitor (15) which detects the drop in pressure.
