The method involves a video and audio signal source which transmits to the PC based MPEG signal coding system. This has an encoder which is coupled to a buffer memory, e.g. a dynamic RAM. The memory operates in a multi-user mode and allows the contents to be transmitted to a hard disc memory. At the same time the data can be transmitted to a communication network at a different bit rate, allowing live transmissions to proceed.
