A process and assembly remove pollutants of different types such as emulsions, suspensions or dispersions from water. The novelty is that: (a) the water and suspended pollutants are continually monitored by instruments; (b) natural environmentally-friendly clay minerals such as Bentonite and other reactant agents are continually added to the water in a fine stream and homogeneously mixed in to the water in strict relation to the pollution load; (c) the clay particles have a large inner surface and act as an ion exchange medium, which with the other reactant agents bind the pollutants by adsorption, followed by flocculation; (d) the flocculant particles are separated as sediment in a subsequent settlement basin; (e) the water skimmed from the settlement basin is discharged to the public drain or re-used as process water; (f) sludge is continually discharged to a sludge tank and is subsequently de-watered, compressed and dried.
