An electrochemical cell has safety devices. The cell has at least two electrodes (1,2) of the same polarity connected in parallel, each with one safety device (3) which interrupts the electrical contact between the electrodes and the terminal when a certain current threshold is exceeded. There is an external indication to the cell that shows when the element has blown. This indication uses an LED (5) coupled to diodes (4) linking each electrode. The current threshold is greater than the short circuit current of one electrode pair by a factor of two but smaller than the total short circuit current of the whole cell.
