The monitoring system has a measuring/evaluation unit (2) for determining the condition data of the battery (1), also generating of the warning and/or the control commands for the application of the battery and of the vehicle according to the condition data. The measuring/evaluation unit and an indicating unit (3), for indicating the condition data and the control and warning commands, together with the battery are accommodated on the vehicle. A warning or a control command can be generated, which concerns the service due of the battery and/or blocks the operation of the vehicle entirely or partly. With the measuring/evaluation unit one or more of the following condition data is determinable. The voltage (U) or the voltage (Ut) of the individual battery cells. The ratio (U/Ut). The charge and discharge times over a period. The rated capacity of the battery and the residual capacity.
