An application of bioactive phosphate layers onto permanent metallic implants for the human body, especially titanium alloy artificial hip joint shafts, in order to improve the growth of the implant into human bone comprises electrolytically depositing liquid (preferably aqueous) phosphate solutions using (pulsing) alternating current or (pulsing) direct current, or combinations of these currents.
