Use of 3-hexyne-2,5-diol (I) and derivs. (II) which form (I) when hydrolysed as nitrification inhibitors is new. Also claimed are fertiliser mixts. comprising an inorganic fertiliser and 0.1-5 wt.% (I) or (II).
