Disposal of food residues from industrial kitchens by mixing in silo with shrub cuttings - and adding alkali and water, following by composting to fertiliser.

In disposal of food residues from industrial kitchens, the residues, mixed with 5-50% of shrub coatings, are fed to a silo, the surface of the silo is covered with 0.1-2 kg/m2 of an alkali, e.g. quicklime, and sprayed with water corresp. to a 0.1-10 mm water column. During 24-48 hr., while the inner temp. of the silo rises and the surface and bottom layer of the silo, 1-15 cm thick, reach a pH of 12, the silo is not turned over. Further processing of the silo corresponds to the composting of bio-waste. After 6-12 weeks, the prod. is a hygienic fertiliser, which can be used on agricultural surfaces.
