Silver halide emulsion sensitised with cyclic or macrocyclic oxirane, thiirane or aziridine

Silver halide (AgX) emulsion contains a (macro)cyclic oxirane, thiirane or aziridine compound of formula (I). In (I), X = O, S or NR3; Z = the residue of a 3-34-membered ring, which may contain heteroatoms, e.g. O, S or NR3; R1, R2 = H, alkyl or aryl; R3 = H, alkyl, aryl, -SO2-aryl, -SO2-alkyl, -CO2-alkyl or NO. Also claimed are: (a) a method of producing a AgX emulsion by precipitation, chemical sensitisation and spectral sensitisation, in which (I) is added in at least one of these stages; and (b) photographic material with a base and light-sensitive AgX emulsion layer(s), including at least one of the above type.
