The support is part of a heel pad (2) itself part of the foot support of an orthopaedic shoe or insert. The elastic pad has a cavity (3) into which a pad (5) can fit, the outer dimensions of which or of the cavity are larger in the longitudinal direction of the foot than in a transverse direction. The front part of the cavity points towards the inside of the foot. The pad or cavity have a symmetrically rounded, esp. elliptical or oval basic shape. The ratio of the large axis (6) to the small axis of the ellipse is between 1.4 and 2.0, pref. 1.7.
