When preparing stacks of folded printed sheets the first fold is pressed after the second fold has been folded. The second fold is pressed after the third fold has been folded and the third fold is pressed after the fourth fold has been folded. After altering the conveyor direction of the sheet leaving the fourth folding mechanism the fourth fold can be pressed in a separate mobile pressing unit which in turn is adjoined by a sorting unit which separates out faulty sheets, and by a layer-forming unit. USE/ADVANTAGE - The folded sheets are pressed with the minimum amount of energy without impairing the printed image.
