The invention relates to an implement for taking hold of and manipulating manhole covers (1, 1a) for road gullies. The implement is designed like grippers with a gripper rail (2) overlapping the manhole cover (1, 1a). Centripetally directed gripper jaws (3, 3a) which can be pressed against the outer surfaces of the manhole cover (1, 1a) are arranged on the ends of the gripper rail (2). At least one of the gripper jaws (3, 3a) is movable in the longitudinal direction of the gripper rail (2) by means of a clamping device. Furthermore, the implement has an eye-like component (7) for connecting to a lifting appliance. The component (7) alternatively projects out on the one or the other horizontal side of the gripper rail (2). And the implement also has two hooks which can be inserted into openings (1aa) in a manhole cover (1a). IMAGE
