In order to change round the positions of two work tables, in particular two workpiece carriers for the assembly of subassemblies to be fabricated from stamped sheet-metal parts, the two tables are moved from mutually opposite starting positions, in which they lie in a common plane, in opposite directions and in the process simultaneously pivoted about longitudinal axes assigned to them to avoid mutual hindrance as they pass each other, until they again lie in a common plane in positions which are changed round with respect to the starting positions.
